To Paint the Bricks or To Not? That Is the Question?

“Hi Toni,
I’ve been meaning to send you the before and after photos of our house. We have received so many compliments from neighbors on how much they liked the paint colors. It truly has made a difference. We love it!

From the Curb!

When I was commissioned to do an “Exterior Color Consultation” for this beautiful home I jumped at the chance! After all I love brick and stone and am so loyal to NOT changing them in any way.

BUT painting exterior brick is a distinct design choice that can completely change the visual appeal of the home, and boy did this home need it. Brick buildings are tried-and-true classics in terms of durability and longevity, and exposed brick accents are wildly popular for interiors as Joanna Gains has taught us. For exteriors, though, homeowners like my clients are more and more often turning to painted brick as a relatively simple curb appeal upgrade with major impact as seen here.

Here’s photo’s of the “before” phase of the project. Note the business the bricks have on the elevations. This home needed a new more tailored look. And the best way to do that is to paint the bricks in a beautiful solid color. Here we used “Lucky Dog KM4928” by Kelly Moore in a Low-Lustre sheen. It’s a handsome deep saturated color!

Notice the stucco was left in Kelly Moore’s “Young Colt” which is on the same color strip as the “Lucky Dog” color. Keeping all the colors in one family helps to add a visual harmony.

It really has made a dramatic change not only for the house itself, but in the neighborhood.
We couldn’t be more pleased.
Thank you so much!
Linda and Tom B.

In the end a beautiful and visually grounded exterior. The lightness and brightness all the elevations help to showcase the stunning landscapes.

You can see the strong relationship between Lucky Dog and Young Colt here on the color strip.
